Frequently Asked Questions
When should I order my cake?
As soon as possible!!!! We get booked up well in advance, so as soon as you have the basic preliminary details finalized (how many people, and when/where your event is going to be), please contact us. We only create a limited number of cakes per week as this enables us to devote the necessary attention to detail.
A minimum of 4 to 6 weeks is required for three-dimensional designs, cakes with sugar flowers, as well as any figurines.
We have a tight budget, can you accommodate us?
Yes! We have options available for most budgets, so do not hesitate to let us know what your estimated budget is before a consultation.
Do all the tiers of my cake have to be the same flavour?
Not at all. Variety is the spice of life! We offer vanilla and chocolate sponge cakes for Birthday cakes and deluxe vanilla, double chocolate, citrus, coffee, carrot cake and fruit cakes, to name but a few, for Wedding cakes. We also have a whole range of delicious fillings and icing flavours available.
Do I have to pick a cake from your portfolio?
We do not limit our clients to using our portfolio. The portfolio is there to display our past work, to showcase our designs and to inspire you. We are more than willing to custom design your cake just for you as a once-off creation. If you see a cake in the portfolio that you like and want it duplicated, it can be achieved. But as most of our decorations are hand-made or modelled, there may be very slight differences to the cakes.
What are your hours of operation?
We operate by appointment so that we can offer the personalised attention you deserve. Enquiries can be sent to our email address and, if necessary, appointments are then made to discuss the details of your order at a convenient time and place.
What is your delivery area?
We supply and set-up Wedding and large corporate cakes in the greater Johannesburg area on a sliding scale for delivery and set-up fee, depending on the address of the wedding venue. We do not deliver Birthday cakes, these are for collection only.
How much should I expect to pay for my cake?
Every cake is different and it is not feasible to give an exact price without knowing all the details such as design, flavour, size, fillings and icings to be used. Naturally, a large, intricate cake is going to cost you more than a small, simple cake. Sculpted or shaped cakes are priced on a case-by-case basis.
Do you rent cake stands?
Yes we do. Please contact us for more details on which stands we have to offer. All stands have fully refundable deposits on them, this is to ensure we can replace any missing or damaged stands.
How can I pay for my cake?
We accept cash, cheques and electronic payments. A deposit must be paid on every cake to secure your order. Please note no order is confirmed without this deposit payment so it is important to pay immediately and to receive confirmation from us that your order has been booked. No orders will be produced without the payment of a deposit.
What is a dummy cake?
A dummy cake is made of styrofoam and is decorated just like a regular cake. A dummy layer can be included in the construction of a multi-tiered cake to provide the look of a larger cake. Dummies are used to give the effect that a larger cake would, without having too much cake left over when you only have a smaller number of guests to cater for. We incorporate dummies in some of our three-dimensional cake designs, such as the head of a 3D teddy bear, but you will be advised on your order as to what is real cake and what is not.
Do you offer tasting samples?
Ordering a sample box before your wedding day allows you to meet with us personally so that we can discuss the type of cake, filling, and design that you are interested in. It is highly recommended, as this offers you the opportunity to taste the cake. Please contact us to book a consultation.
How must my cake be stored?
Any butter iced cake or cupcakes can be refrigerated if you feel it is necessary, but cakes with plastic must be stored in a cool area, out of direct sunlight, preferably in an air-conditioned room. In summer we suggest keeping you plastic iced cake in the fridge, this will cause some condensation on the cake but will soon dry off. Cupcakes with plastic icing figurines or sugar flowers as decoration should be kept out of the fridge, as the figurines may become soft in the humid air. Cakes with chocolate decorations must be kept refrigerated, especially if your cake has a mousse filling. Normal butter iced chocolate cakes will be fine, as long as they are kept in a cool area.
Can you make a cake from a picture or photo that I have?
We welcome any pictures or photos that you have, as well as any ideas that you would like to discuss with us. We could either recreate your image exactly, or consult you on our variation. If you choose to order a cake from a picture or photo that is not from our portfolio we cannot guarantee that it will be an exact replica, as many pictures are from overseas companies, using equipment that is not available in our local area. We have our own styles and techniques so by paying your deposit you are accepting that we will use our creative discretion to design your cake.
What is your refund and cancellation policy?
